What is a ‘Futures’ Experience?
Aviation is lucky enough to host to a variety of different career paths and our ‘Futures’ experiences have been created to broaden our STEM Flights programme portfolio. This enables us to showcase and deepen a students awareness and their understanding of the exciting job roles available in a STEM career.
Our Futures Weeks are individually designed as a weeklong programme for approximately 10-12 students, aged 14-18 years. The week closely follows the latest STEM strategy provided by the Department for Education, and helps attendees learn about the pathways available into a variety of aviation careers. The week enables our students to think about and develop the skills and attributes needed to fulfil their full potential in their future careers, whilst gaining a confidence and belief in themselves.
The week includes behind the scenes visits to corporate organisations, talks by industry professionals and immersive activities which provide students with first-hand knowledge of the aviation industry.
The experience is an effective tool which can be used to open doors within the industry and also used to help bridge the gap between education and real working environments.
Applications specifically for our Futures Week are open to young people from all different backgrounds that have an interest in STEM and aviation. Successful applicants are invited to attend an interview at the host airport and 10-12 of these applicants would be chosen to attend the week.
Our Futures Day/Evening is a scaled down version of our full Futures week program. The aim of these days/evenings is to spark an interest in STEM and aviation careers, whilst also promoting our Futures Weeks to encourage the students to apply for our weeklong experience.
